Directions to our vacation homes
From Downtown Chicago:
Travel West to Dan Ryan/ Kennedy Expressway. Go East on I-94 to Chicago Skyway (around 63rd Street - you'll need to get onto local lanes to make your exit). Once you're on the Chicago Skyway, you'll cross the Skyway Toll Bridge ($2.00) and continue onto Indiana Toll Road (1st toll is $.50) for 20 miles and exit as the Toll Road Intersects with I-94 again at Lake Station (toll is $.30).
Take I-94 East for 20 miles to Exit 34B - to U.S. 421 (North) to Michigan City. Follow U.S. 421 (North) through Michigan City - 421 becomes Franklin Street as you cross U.S. 20. Keep going straight. At 9th street, Franklin becomes a one-way street - continue going North until you reach the end (4th Street) Library is in front of you. Turn right - go East 1 block to Pine Street (also a one-way street) and turn left onto Pine.
As you turn, City Hall will be on your left and the Chamber of Commerce on your right - get in the right hand lane. Follow the signs to Washington Park, Zoo, and Marina. You will pass "Galveston Steak House", stay to your right and take the curve around it - then you will pass "Matey's" - keep going North toward Washington Park, Zoo, etc. You will cross over the Amtrak railroad tracks, then the drawbridge - the Naval Armory will be on your right - take the curve to your right - you will be on Lake Shore Drive. Washington Park will be on your left and as you proceed the Zoo will be on your right. Continue East on Lake Shore Drive to the first four-way stop sign. An apartment complex will be on the SW corner, a house will be on the NW corner, an empty lot will be on the NE corner and Beach House Café will be on the SE corner.
Continue traveling East approximately 4/10 of a mile to Beachwalk. The entrance to Beachwalk will be on your right. To reach House of Kells and Celtic Knot, turn onto Beachwalk Lane. The main house, 101 Beachwalk Lane, is the second house on the right.
From Northern Ohio:
Take 80/90 from Cleveland into Indiana. Go to the exit at US Hwy. 421. Go North to Michigan City (This is a left turn at the end of the exit.) · Hwy. 421 becomes Franklin Street when you cross Hwy. 20. Keep going straight (North)
Stay on Franklin until you come to 11th Street ( railroad tracks run down the middle of 11th street.)
Turn right on 11th Street. Go one block, then turn left (North) on Pine Street. ·Stay on Pine Street going North. You'll cross Hwy 12. Stay in the right lane after you cross Hwy 12. This will take you over a bridge, through Washington Park, and past the Zoo. You'll come to a stop sign. Just keep going straight - you'll be on Lake Shore Drive. Beachwalk is approximately ¾ mile past the stop sign on the right side, with a white fence and flowers at its entrance.
To reach House of Kells and Celtic Knot, turn onto Beachwalk Lane. The main house, 101 Beachwalk Lane, is the second house on the right.
From Michigan:
Travel west on Interstate 94
Take Exit 40B (U.S. 35/U.S. 20) going west - you will be 8.2 miles from Beachwalk
Take first exit (Indiana 212) North (right hand turn) to U.S. 12 (approximately 4 miles)
Turn West (left) onto U.S. 12 to Karwick Plaza (approximately 1.7 miles)
Turn North (right) onto Karwick Road - it will become Chastleton Drive
Turn West (left) onto Lake Shore Drive "Dead End Stop" - Beachwalk is approximately 1.7
miles. Turn left onto Beachwalk Lane.

From Indianapolis:
